My father and bad socks

So my day began bemoaning the fact that my socks did not fit right. This has been a life long thing with me and my feet. It literally ruins my day, puts me in a foul mood and just disrupts any flow I have going on.

When you consider that a majority of the nerves in the human body end in the feet it begins to make sense that if your feet are not comfy you are not happy.

I guess next time you are having a bad day you may want to change your socks or put on a better pair of shoes. However that concept is not the point of this issue.

For lack of anything better to say and because my stupid socks were messing with my day I decided to share it with the world via facebook and twitter, I didn’t put it on my tumblr though

Several people liked it, assuming that they too have the same dislike of uncomfortable feet and my aunt left a comment about my father not liking the bad sock fit either. I did know that but I hadn’t thought about it in a while and didn’t make the connection this morning during my lament. Another friend said, “like father like son”

However when I read these comments at lunch time, It sparked a chain of thoughts and I spent the rest of the day during my wondering thoughts time thinking about my father and I and how else we were a like or not alike.

Coincidentally the anniversary of my father’s death was about two weeks ago. So I had been thinking about him a lot lately anyway and how it still is hard to believe that he isn’t here any longer.

They say as long as you keep some one in your thoughts they never really die. I suppose that is true and while my father and I don’t have conversations any longer there are times when I think about the words he would have for me or what he might say.

Like all children and parents my relationship with my parents had ups and downs. There were times that we simply did not get along at all and went for long periods without speaking. Other times we got along and bonded in our way.

My father was a very private person who didn’t share a lot of his feelings with people. I am like that. My father liked to discuss politics and current events.

I like current events but see politics as a corrupt and very evil thing and those in politics serve only themselves and themselves alone. I would rather muck out horse stalls than talk about politics the same goes for religion.

The list could go on and on about how we were a like or not alike. Which I could do but that would involve getting into things which are pretty personal and perhaps good reading or perhaps not if you didn’t know my father.

Like my father people rarely if ever saw him drink anything other than coffee. He drank his coffee black and all day long. I do the same. I do get in several glasses of water too but for the most part if it’s liquid and going into my body chances are it is coffee.

My father was a very good artist and had no formal training, at least none that I am aware. He drew houses with a lot of detail and I’m lucky enough to have one of his drawings. He drew houses for people and some of his ideas were built and some of them are part of the house where he lived and died.

I’ve come to peace with my father’s absence in that I know from our conversations that he didn’t want to linger in hospitals and he died in his sleep following a celebration. The celebration was my mother’s high school reunion. She was away on a trip with my youngest brother and he could have easily have not gone but he knew many of these people and was friends with a lot of them even if he had gone to high school in another state.

Everyone who was there later said that he was in good spirits and had a very good time with friends and some family as well.

I was visiting with my cousin in North Carolina the day he died and had tried to call a few times on my way back home but was never able to get a connection.

We had spoken about a week before and I know that that last thing we said to one another was I love you

Glad I ended up sharing my bad sock day because it lead to some better thoughts

In other news…

Stunt boy asked me If I kept all the beer I have in the fridge is on the bottom shelf to keep it from freezing. I said no, I keep it there because I don’t use it a lot and it’s out of the way there.

He says, Oh that must be why my mom keeps hers on the top shelf.

Well, that’s all for now, other stuff tomorrow most likely

Doodle goes to college

Well seems that Cat-E Perry has finally broken free from what ever mind control drugs or voodoo that Russell had her under and they are calling it quits.

Today being the second day of the new year the above news seems to indicate that things will certainly be better in twenty twelve.

Rock Lobster by the B-52’s is an amazing song not for its lyrics, and not really for the vastness of musical chords but something about it is just really stimulating for me. Perhaps it is because it is from a time when life was far less complicated for me although at the time I didn’t think it was all that uncomplicated.

The B-52’s and other punk music I was listening to at the time was different then what other people were listening to and that was how I felt, different. So the music had an appeal that main stream music didn’t.

In other news

My dog, Wondermutt, whose name isn’t Wondermutt but I don’t have a creative nickname for her yet was much better than I expected. A friend, who also doesn’t have a creative nickname yet, came over and brought her dog, who also has no nick name. Well Wondermutt hasn’t really been around other dogs because she is so freaking hyper all the freaking time, I just didn’t trust to let her around other dogs. She has nipped a few people so there is a reason for the lack of confidence in her social skills.

She didn’t freak out on the dog or my friend. So now I think that she doesn’t like smokers or people who touch her hind quarters. Stunt boy is really the only one she lets brush her tail or back legs.

In other, other news

Doodle has left the ‘Noke for go away college. This is the first time she will be moving out of a place that hasn’t been the home of a relative. Big step in her life, while it’s just college it is a break from home that hasn’t happened before. Of course she always has a home as long as I have a home. I am a mess of emotions right now, proud, missing her, worried, excited for her, concerned and hopeful and a thousand others all at once. I know she will do well at school as she starts out on this new adventure in her life.

Well, that’s all for now, other stuff tomorrow most likely

Fun times at the invisible fortress

Sorry the writing hasn’t been happening here lately. The problem now is one of not over indulgence but the lack of it. I know how un American of me. I or We as this refers to Stunt boy and myself, only have one computer here at the invisible fortress.

I know the name implies that there would be state of the art high tech everything and lots of it. Surprising how little high tech you need when your fortress is invisible.

Recently Stuntboy has been more into playing his PC games rather than console games. Which have PC versions and are computer programs just played on a rather different computerized thing, which generally leaves the computer free for me to indulge myself with blogging and whatever else that strikes me.

Now I could be the kind of Dad that says, hey punk my computer get off the thing.

But as I’m not a paid writer and the blog at the moment is really just a think that is for fun and relaxation it seems a bit ass hat ish to kick him off

Being as it was someone else’s choice that I get to miss half his life and if it were completely up to that person it would be all of his life but that’s a different story. I have been really been able to put things in perspective as to importance.

I don’t think having two lives has had any permanent damage to my psyche. You know one week I’m single dad, then the next week I’m just single. Now when doodle was living here full time it was just single dad all the time and stunt boy was here half the time.

I prefer the single dad with kid weeks to the single dad weeks without kids. There are certainly things I don’t like about being a single dad but all of those generate back to the “egg donor” in the picture. However we aren’t going on that rant.

So Stunt boy has been using the computer and I haven’t been able to access it until very later in the day and then we were doing other things together.

Like the other day Doodle even came over and we watched Tucker and Dale v. Evil
Too funny, if you have ever seen a teen slasher movie, this movie is a parody of those and it is terrific. The guys who play Tucker and Dale are a great team and I was laughing start to finish. Doodle and Stunt boy also thought it was a great movie.

Doodle is moving away soon to go to a go away college so it was nice to have some hanging out together time. She even got to color a pixie while she was here.

Well time to get things more together for the holidays. I may have time to do some stuff over the next few days but if not Merry Happy Whatever Days to all of you all.

Way out west

Recently the dynamic duo and I went to Los Angeles for our cousin’s bat mitzvah. This was a good trip which started out a bit horrific… ok problematic I’ll try to be less dramatic.

Anyway we arrive at the departure airport to check in an hour before departure time. This is a domestic flight not an international and it is out of a domestic only airport with 6 gates of which only two are ever used at any single time. Anyway

We are told you won’t be leaving on that flight we over sold it and there was a cancelled flight from yesterday so those seats were given to those passengers. WTF?

No kidding these are the words out of the persons mouth. Again, WTF? There are tons of problems with this customer service persons statement alone. Then he adds after we complaint legitimately and respectfully, Well if you don’t like it you can always go to another airport.

The hell you say, Not wanting to get arrested I said thank your for that sir your sarcasm isn’t appreciated

To which he replies Neither is yours

He really did say those words after his company made the error of over selling a flight and bumping passengers well in advance of departure. I’m sorry you cancelled a flight the day before. You compensate those people fairly but you don’t phuck more over in the process.

Then to be done with the discussion he just walks off into the back without saying anything behind those airport doors that you can’t follow him through

Anyway he comes back out well after there is nothing to do about getting on the plane that we were supposed to be on

Long story short we make it to LA on different flights Doodle on one and stunt boy and I on another. Arriving several hours apart from one another which makes it all the more fun for those on the other end meeting us no instead of going to LAX once that day they get to go twice.

If you’ve been to LA you know the horror that is in and out of LAX if you don’t know LAX then there really aren’t words for it except that imagine every car and van and taxi you have ever seen in your life all in the same place all trying to get to the same loading/ unloading zone at the same time. And that is just the outside of LAX

So we make it to the Hotel

Yay. So what was to be a day of hanging out in LA was a day hanging out in airports.

Next day is a bit of touristy stuff. Stunt boy went with the other one and his family to the Santa Monica Pier and I stayed behind to help move stuff to the temple for the Bat Mitzvah after celebration. Which was fun I jumped of the pier the last time I was in LA no need to the return to the scene of the crime.

Then we had dinner at our cousin’s home

Then the next day was the Bat Mitzvah which was very cool and I enjoyed being there.

Now my cousin is in the business of entertainment business in LA. He has been in several TV shows and a couple of movies. Nothing huge but still better than most and his wife is also in the business behind the cameras.

There were several people who are in bigger things who were at the Bat Mitzvah and are friend of my cousin and his family.

I didn’t point and tried not to be obvious that I knew people and took a few photos with my phone.

The guy in the playstation commercials was there and he spoke with me, So how do you know (my cousin’s name)

I say oh he is my cousin

He says oh ok have a good time and then he mingled around some more.

I was all calm on the out side but on the inside I was like OMG you are the guy from the PS3 commercials and stuff.

Then there were other people there too. I was able to maintain and not offend anyone and I didn’t even ask for any autographs. I learned my lesson from when the other one and I met Ryan Reynolds and loudly blurted out “you are that product testing guy” about his character Berg on Two Guys and a Girl.

The celebration went well, singing and dancing and merriment.

The next day was brunch at the cousins and then we went to Venice Beach for the day to do the touristy thing

Then later I, stuntboy, my cousin’s daughter and my cousin who is in the navy went to Burbank to pick up food and to cone at a McDonalds

Then it was more family hanging out and catching up and talking about stuff.

The next day it was back to Virginia all in all it was a good trip and everyone had a good time. Without too much family drama, you can’t have a family gathering without some drama though but I’m not getting into this one.

She's a Senior

Short tonight

Tonight was my daughter’s Senior Night at her high school. This was scheduled for tomorrow but ended up getting moved to tonight. Stunt boy and I got her a some roses and candy in her school colors to give to her for the occassion.

I am very proud of her. It seems like only yesterday she was wearing her little white cowboy boots which she rarely took off to her first day of school.

I have that photo but she might actually freak out and blow up if I scanned it into the cyber world. I mean really just start shaking and explode in to a billion little bits.

In other news…

the b-ball team whooped on the away team

Next week is dodge ball, yea!

That’s all for now other stuff tomorrow, have a great day and play nice in the neighborhood.
