I watched a movie and want to see another one

Ugh today was a long and complicated day hopefully tomorrow will be better.

I don’t talk about work here because I can’t and besides they aren’t really fun stories.

In other news

Watched the Social Network recently… Wow I’m not sure who the screenplay and book writers are connected to in the story but they are connected to someone who is not Mark Zuckerberg. So until I find that out and who they are connected to in the story then I’m not sure exactly what to think about it all.

My thought is if someone can’t develop an idea to its fullest potential but can think them really is the genesis of the idea. However, if you can’t do anything with it and someone else can and they make the other persons idea work. Who really owns the idea then? I’m not sure and I think that’s the point.

Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake are absolutely brilliant in this movie. Both are becoming favorite actors. I’ve yet to see either in a role that wasn’t well preformed.

In other news

There is another trailer of the Harry Potter last part on the CD of the first part of the last part which releases tomorrow. I can’t wait for July. Do I have time to read all the books again? Maybe, but I’m not likely to do it

Random stuff

I really think that crossword puzzle writers just want to hurt your brain and if you don’t keep doing them they are some how able to suck part of your brains away.

Stunt boy asked why do they say it’s good luck if it rains on your wedding day? I said I guess so you feel better about it raining on your wedding day.

What if your car started making phone calls on your phone? You know because your car can answer your phone now. That’s just a hijack and wifi connect from your car becoming a platform to abuse your car, your phone and your bank account all at once.

Why does the world have a yellow haze today?

Several silent days have gone by since I last put pen to paper, as such. I’m sure my tens of readership have not been overly concerned of my demise however to put an end to any unnecessary suffering …I has returned.

Stunt boy and I have been hanging out some and spring fever has hit… by that I mean allergies …hooray and what not. With that the flaming queen in my back yard is in full force and the supermodel not to be out done also dumped a load of crap into the yard. The Roman just looks at me with the dead birds and remains of other woodland critters hanging from his limbs. I still have no idea what sort of tree the Roman is but it not to be trifled with and as I rediscovered that the roots of this thing is thorny.

So if you didn’t guess I was doing some yard work and more spring cleaning around the house and even watched a movie and played a video game and Stunt boy had some of his crew over. I know, I know, I need to put the fun o meter in a lower gear or I’ll over load soon. Fear not, I’m a trained semi professional so I’m ok but don’t try this sort of thing at home without proper safety gear and or supervision.

I may have called the thumb injury better a wee bit prematurely, still no pain just clicking and popping.

My meditation has helped some and I’m trying to keep things in perspective and remain hopeful.

Today we saw The Last Airbender, we being stunt boy and I. It was not a stellar movie but if you watched the animated show at then it is worth watching. I used to watch it with stuntboy and we enjoyed the movie and the time together. I kept having this feeling that I knew the one actor but didn’t place him as Jasper Hale (Jackson Rathbone) from the Twilight movies until after to see if a second one was in the works. I think mainly because Jasper doesn’t speak much in the books or the movies but there he was fighting the fire nation. If you don’t know the source material for this one you may want to pass on this movie but as I said if you know it, it is decent. And I wasn’t hopeful for a second as M. Night didn’t have a lot of luck with this film.


Litter Box thought of the day… do other people have random thoughts while scooping the box? Hmmm… If they do what do they think…what do people wear when scooping the box out. Do some people do this task au natural?

In other news… the super moon was really bright… it was the brightest I ever remember seeing the moon… N 4 F R seriously and such stuff.

In mission news… much sadness there is none however there are some photos in the March Mission thing on the FB so if you like the middle finger has a glance if not, well then you probably shouldn’t look.

Real, not real

A lot of my time lately has been considering many things and in such times, I sometimes find myself lost. Not because my mind is unable to find my way back to things but just grounding myself in where things started. What is real and what is possibility or if you prefer not real.

I think many times we, not just me, get too far out from the starting point and then what is possibility ends up being a substitute for the real. Then from that point what occurs is ultimately unstable because it isn’t built on anything real just what was possible.

Like standing at the edge of the land and sea, standing there long enough you’ll find that you are neither in the sea nor are you on land but you may find you are in a predicament and unable to move anywhere. However you will continue to sink further down.

While each, being firmly on land or completely to sea, holds plentiful rewards and tragic peril only peril will befall the person in between.

I need to meditate on the first two pillars and mindfulness. I think my action and intent are correct. In the area of mindfulness it isn’t that it isn’t correct but drifting in the possible rather than the real.

I rather enjoy the possible and think that for all that is imagined if real would be correct. However it is only possible and that is the grounding anchor I need to keep in mind. What is real and what is hope.

In film news – I have recently watched

Paper Man – I enjoyed this movie, the trail depicts a light hearted trip of a writer struggling to produce. I recommend it but it has a few creepy moments and is much darker than the trailer depicts. Well worth it if you like a studio –indie film.

Catchfish – a documentary of modern life and the internet. Wow I won’t give any spoilers but if you wanted to see this movie and like indie documentaries this one is very well done and timely.

Dark City – was told it was a must see before seeing the adjustment bureau – I truly hope the two are not connected. I like the concept here but I think it was filmed solely to be bizarre and lost sight of the story.


A Girl Walks Into a Bar – a full length made for the internet movie and it’s free. It was free. There were a lot of bigger names in this film like Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, that evil guy from Heroes and many others. It was only mildly creative, the story was good there was a little character development but not much – it’s worth a look if just want to see a new movie, but there is nothing really all that new going on except for maybe the naked ping-pong which may not really be that original.

Let The Right On In – Swedish version of the book ‘Let Me In’ and US movie of the same name. I’ve seen both and both leave a lot of the book out.

The Swedish version is truer to the core of the books but still omits a lot.
The US version looses a lot of the elements of the book and renames a main character, and substitutes in two minor parts and one supporting character to represent the nearly ten missing book characters. The US version had much better effects and neither version really develop the two main characters well enough. If you like vampire movies they are worth watching, if you don’t care for vampires then passing on them is probably the better idea.

Real, not real

Evil french guy and the new hotness and I don't mean Will Smith

Went to see the movie Black Swan the other day, it was fantastic and recommend that anyone wanting to see it should see it. My only critique of the film is more a critique of our writing or really the lack of writing today and this wasn’t a realization I would have made without an unexpected stimuli.

The stimuli was an older woman, not that sort of stimuli…geezus… She was in the theatre and left the film during a conversation between the characters Nina (Natalie Portman) and Thomas (Evil French Guy, I don’t know his name but he was the evil French guy in Oceans 12 and 13 and Derailed too).

Well she got up and left and did not come back and my thought at the time was that she left to leave because the character Thomas said Firetruck and by firetruck I don’t mean firetruck but the first and last three letters of firetruck. Most everyone else thought she left to go to the potty or whatever. The person I saw the movie with didn’t even notice her leaving yet she was sitting in front of us. She didn’t make a scene just got up and left right after the Thomas character said firetruck in a way that suggested that he might want to have firetruck then.

Maybe I don’t suspend disbelief enough to think I’m actually there watching the events unfold and become unaware that I am in a theatre watching a story surrounded by others. I just don’t trust other people enough not to be a bit aware of them on some level, especially in the dark. I don’t think I’m all super in tune to things either, because I’m not really all that uber observant most of the time when the lights are on

So either way I just knew she wasn’t coming back to the movie. I didn’t dwell on it then because the movie was good enough to really hold my attention but in thinking about it later could the character Thomas have gotten his point across effectively with Nina without saying firetruck.

I think so and I think it may have added only a few more minutes to the movie no more than five and perhaps raised an excellent film to a more than excellent film and would have made for some really good character development for Thomas which was really only hinted at to this point in the film. This is not the fault of any of the actors, its’ all driven by writers and I didn’t see this character as being as crass as to say hey wanna firetruck but he was definitely a lothario.

So my thoughts now had he been more erotic and subtle or even made with the innuendo this scene would have had a helluva lot more weight and given a better direction for others scenes later in the film. There would have been a lot of added depth too all of the characters actions in later scenes.

I think the lady would have still left the film but maybe would have waited until Lily and Nina were … ah… well it was more Lily doing things to Nina and with different camera angles could have raised things to NC-17 or even other ratings. I’m not going to rewrite the scene, well not any more than I already have in my head, but I think it could have been done with more style.

The point being that we are losing our fondness for dialogue in film and hitting people in the head rather than making them think just a little bit. I know I do sometimes need things to be wrapped up in a brick and tossed at my head for me to get them but I like it more without it being all spelled out directly.


In other news

My third grader friend and I who are both not really in the third grade but we do laugh like third graders about, Mr. Hunt and Mr. Hawke both named Michael. Perhaps our hi-jinx are a little beyond the third grade. However they are likely to remain only on the third grade playground and not anywhere else. Mr. Hunt is wet and Mr. Hawke is like a rock. Mr. Hunt ran into Mr. Hawke. Mainly we don’t talk about Mr. Hawke because we both prefer to talk about Mr. Hunt. While I’ve seen Mr. Hawke I have not seen Mr. Hunt nor has Mr. Hunt seen Mr. Hawke but my friend has seen Mr. Hunt.

Still in other news

Do you even own underwear? I’m not complaining just making an observation.

The Weathered Underground and Schadenfreude

Saw an interesting movie the other day.

The Weathered Underground

I am not recommending this movie as a good movie or saying it’s a bad movie. There are good things and bad in this movie.

It’s an interactive movie. Each trip only takes about 15 minutes or less, but you get to watch the movie and when the character comes to a point where a choice is made you get to make it and then the story continues on that path. Until the next choice.

The good parts weren’t extremely good but it was an interesting concept and fun to play with. The story interesting at times and the imagery was thought provoking.

The bad parts include some very bad animation over live film which makes the film really hard to watch. As I don’t quit on movies I struggled through it but there were times when I thought ok this is just too much what ever the reason for going this direction with the filming was a really bad one.

Spring … allergies and mountains off pollen ugh

Saw two old friends today and had a nice conversation and a shot of Schadenfreude and learned something I already knew but just didn’t realize the depth it went

The invisibility of people happens sometimes by choice and other times by having it given to you. Not that it’s a gift you may want but usually the people giving you invisibility aren’t asking if you want it or not. They just give it to you and don’t really much care what you think about much of anything at all let alone whether or not you want what they are giving you.

Being that banishment isn’t really much used any more and because communities are so large shunning isn’t really all that effective. So rendering someone invisible is the only option left.

The trick is finding a way to reappear. I suppose though there in lies the rub. If you can’t be seen, you can’t really see the whole of the world. Being invisible lets you see how so many others don’t follow the rules. Funny that those who follow the least amount of rules expect the most from others and how they follow rules.

In other news …

I want to mention a few things but one of the paths prevents me from doing that but I may at some point.

Stuntboy was a part of his middle school soccer team. It was very good for him and I was very happy to see him happy about something he wanted but CPG tried to talk him of doing.

Doodle is doodle and I miss her and worry and love her and hope.

Still in other news if you haven’t seen the film, The Shipping News (2001) - I saw it a while ago when it was new and have always wanted to see it again and now I finally have. It’s not much of a fast moving film but it is a great film. I may have to find the book and read it now.

HP 6 and other stuff... well mainly HP6

I’ve been debating about pulling out the ye olde soapbox and ranting about a few things, however I’ll keep it put away for today and rant later.

Stunt boy and I went to see HP6 yesterday I waited to go see it because he was with his mother when it came out and then was at camp for the week. So yesterday was really the first opportunity we had to see it together. So we did.

I enjoyed the movie and if you haven’t seen it or read the books by this time then spoilers shouldn’t matter. However, if you haven’t seen or read then be warned, reading further you’ll find out things you didn’t know yet.

The movie did depart from the book from the very beginning, however I think that rather than have some dialogue driven scene and the need to introduce two new characters it was just better to cut the book material and rewrite a scene that accomplishes the same result. The human world and magic worlds are beginning to collide with bad results. The opening scene did accomplish that very objective. Now unless you are reading the wanted posters in the film and know the books the werewolf is not introduced and the havoc he wrecks upon both worlds is largely ignored. And who was over seeing the thing and missed that he is never introduced formally in the movie or even mentioned by the other characters. Just a bad guy run amok in the movie.

Then there is the departing from the actual physical characteristics is fine as long as the basic essences of the character is captured . Which I think in all 6 movies they have done wonderfully for all the characters and in replacing Dumbledore after the death of Richard Harris. Personally I think Ian McKellen would have been the logical choice but he had already done Gandolf and I think that may have persuaded all parties not to pick him including Sir Ian.

So little looks and things are fine to depart from.

The whole turmoil between Ron and Harry regarding the Jenny thing is missing. Which is fine as they resolve it by the end of the book. The elude to it poorly through out but it’s a non issue by book 7 so why bother. It does establish Harry has to be alone a lot in the story so it’s need but the exclude Ron by use of the Slug Club, so mission accomplished.

Dumbledore’s death scene was a bit anti-climatic but that may have been because I read the book and knew Draco wouldn’t do it and Snape kills him. Yes Dumbledore dies. Sorry I warned you not to read if you didn’t want to know stuff. However I don’t think I’ve surprised anyone.

I know purists will argue that there was just too much of the book lost in the translation to film. I have to disagree. The main points were accomplished

Dumbledore is dead
Snape killed him.
Snape is the half blood prince.
Ron and Hermione are in love but only she knows it.
Harry loves Ginny and everyone knows it.
Luna Lovegood is the coolest character in the story after Harry of course.
The Order of the Phoenix is pretty much ineffective in book 6.
Draco and his family are really just opportunists and don‘t want to do the dirty work. .
Bellatrix is really crazy and evil.
Horcruxes exists and need to be destroyed.
Evil is winning for now but the really good guys aren’t going to just lay down and take it.

Yeah all that was accomplished. Bring on number 7

All in all, I don’t think it was the best of the 6 but it does fit with the others and I’m looking forward to the two book 7 movies. So HP 6 on the invisible don 0 to 5 movie rating scale is a 4

However, GI Joe is the next film stunt boy and I are wanting to see because it looks awesome and then after that Where the Wild Things Are in October. The trailer for this film looks fantastic.

Bitter?

Bitter?

Not really, why do you ask?

Why is it that when ever someone expresses a level of disillusionment with how others behave and act toward you, our assumption is to label that person as bitter.

Excuse me????

Bitter is not seeing your own faults in your failures and giving up. Being stepped on, used, lied to and taken advantage of and other things is not being bitter. It may be whinny if it goes on continually. However, bitter it is not.

I’m confused, exhausted, baffle, bamboozled, done in, sold down the river, lost my faith in humanity at times.

I know I’m not perfect and I make mistakes. I admit to them albeit sometimes reluctantly but I will say I’m wrong and mean it when I am wrong and not call the person a bad names when I am wrong.

So with that let me emote my emotions and express myself.

In other news

I saw a movie in the first week it is out - The watchmen.

I did not read the graphic novel and I may not or I may I have not decided if I’ll jump on that band wagon or not. So not being familiar with the source material I can’t say if the movie was true to the source or not.

I did do some reading about who was who before hand.

So some characters I think were true to the source and others were not. I think the movie portrayed a look at our lack of culture and misplaced ideology and worship of immediacy rather than prosperity.

I did like the movie as a whole. I think Jackie Earle Haley is deserving of high laurels for his portrayal of Rorschach. He was believable in every regard to the character’s essence of an unyielding steadfastness to his beliefs even to his own destruction. Better to be dead than to compromise your beliefs. Which I think is something we don’t see often any longer so many of us, including me have a flexibility in your morality and beliefs we dare not stand up for them for fear of a backlash.

I give it a 4.5 on the invisible don 0to 5 scale for movies.
Good action, great effects, and there is a message there too.

The natural world is not a theme park

Today Stunt-boy was sick and didn’t go to school. He is feeling a bit better now later in the evening however now I’m feeling like I’ve gotten what ever it is that he has gotten.

Yay, that’s exactly what I need. I do not have any problem taking care of my children when they are ill and if I’m work place wants to complain about it I’ll have something to say which won’t be fun to hear.

However, I hate being sick myself.

With that said was reading about a book I’m still trying to get finished. “Into The Wild.” I had the same problems with another book by the same author, “Into Thin Air.” The point is that I’m not particularly fond of the writing style or really the point that Mr. Krakauer attempts to build an epic level sympathy for the main character, Chris “Alexander Supertramp” McCandless, as if he did some great thing by falling off the grid then dying in the middle of nowhere Alaska.

I know this has been said by several thousand voices before me. I don’t the Mr. McCandless is a hero, in fact I think his death was due to his own arrogance that he was smarter than most people he came across and felt that he could do anything that he heard or read without attempting any practical application of what he was attempting to learn.

I do admire his attempt to cutting himself off the grid in a sense but he didn’t really but more so than most people ever do in their lives. There are people who live off the grid and we don’t hear about them - because they don’t end up dead in the woods. Do I have what it takes to live in the wild. No, I don’t. I recognize my limitation and realize that I could live without many of the things I have and I’m working on eliminating the excess from my life.

The truth is that the corporate world wants us to crave and think that we need all the crap they are putting out there. While I can agree that the world that McCandless was running from needs to change and the frustration of seeing just how corrupt the corporate world really makes most people feel like running away. However, shouldn’t you try to fight the horrible world rather than runaway from it but if you do decide to run away from the world do it with a bit more sense.

The natural world is not a theme park, you don’t buy an admission ticket from some teen in a cage working for spare cash so they can buy x-box live membership credits. It’s the real deal out there and mother nature doesn’t show any mercy, she doesn’t feel sorrow or remorse for taking the lives of those who do not respect that life is cruel. McCandless died and that is sad, and his family surely lives with so many unanswered questions as to why and what if, however if he had used his obvious intelligence to take some preparations he would perhaps be alive today. He is not a hero in my eyes just a person who failed to realize their own limitations and was poisoned by the very society he was running away from that if you go you get to ride all the rides. Well you don’t get to ride all that rides and if you try to ride the rides which you aren’t ready for in nature you just might die.

Perhaps you can get through the book better than I can. The movie was ok and would give it a three over all.

From one extreme to another.

So I was thinking about right speech and that has been put to the challenge lately. So have many other things. Currently in my work there is a person whom is power hungry. I’ve found that there is no way to deal with power hungry people they are if anything persistent it is better to leave them to their own paranoid little world where everyone is out to get them and they have to belittle, argue and have everyone conform to their way of doing things.

It’s like the problem is 2 + 2 = 4

Well do 5-1, 3+1, 8-4, 10-6 and so on all equal for but if you don’t arrive at the same conclusion in the same manner well then your way is wrong. No it is not wrong it’s just not how you would do it.

It must be done my way and no other because I said so.

In other news

A co-worker of mine has not seen many a good movie because … well you know I’m not sure why he hasn’t seen any of the movies he hasn’t seen. However until yesterday I had not seen Joe Dirt.

The reasons for this were, I don’t think it was funny from the trailer, I don’t think David Spade is always that funny, in fairness he has his moments, and I don’t know I just felt that it wouldn’t be that good.

Unrelated to David Spade but related because he is like a lot of other actors coming from the late night players just because you were on SNL does not mean you are obligated to star in a movie.

He laid the down this saying that he could not truly good faith take any movie recommendation seriously if I had not seen Joe Dirt.

Joe Dirt. Of all movies out there This is the cinematic jewel by which to some extent all others must be judged? Seriously (stealing from SNL)

So it arrived in the Netflix pack. I opened it and beams of light from the heavens or my TV I’m not sure which erupted into my living room. I’m pretty sure it was my TV. I put it in the DVD player. The welcoming bass of George Thorogood rang out of the speaker. Hope swelled in my heart think well if the Bad to Bone Delaware Destroyer has sold out on this perhaps I should put on my cobra snake neck tie and pour a triple threat and relax cause the house rent blues are not playing.

Well I did not pour myself the one bourbon, one scotch and one beer before sitting down in front of the Saga (SAG-GAH ala Dennis Miller) of Joe Dirt and wished that I had done that a couple of times by the end of the movie. However it was not the worst movie in the world. Some high points the queen of the trailer park Jamie Pressley she plays white trash a bit too well, Christopher Walken need I say more, and Rosanna Arquette she really is the female Christoper Walken as far as you need a good actor to play it straight, off the wall, bizarre-o chick, drug addict, sex addict, saggy boobie t-shirt print wearin croc farm owner she is the gal to call.

Low points Kid Rock - nothing more need be said, 747 pilot mooning - WTF???, Carson “are you really that hard up for work” Daly

It is not the worst movie in the world that claim in my opinion still belongs to the Blair Witch Project. - I’m sure there are worse films but those films haven’t taken 90 minutes of my life away that one has and I prayed for them to die from about 45 minutes into the film I wanted to be the one to kill them.

So Joe Dirt on the 5 star scale and zero scale I give it a 2 - I’m not glad I saw it but I’m not over all sorry I saw it either

The movie scale is
0 - hated this film - not worthy of mentioning except to say burn it burn it burn it before it is seen by others,
1 - Sorry I saw it - Can I have a refund of the money of my life which ever is easy for you to recover.
2 - Not glad but not sorry either - not recommending and only admitting to seeing if cornered or to win a bet.
3.- worth the look for me you will have to decide on your own - I’ll tell you what I think if you ask
4 - worth recommending - depending on your taste you should like it but if you don’t it’s not my fault -it does reach across genre barriers most action movies end up here.
5 - must see - for me there is a message in the material or there are things done in the film which make it a ground breaking film

Comtemplative

Contemplative.

I have been deep in thought and shallow in thought the last few days and thus no entries have been made. However I’m not sure I’m to the point where I’m going to share the things in my thoughts right now, well in truth some of the things in my thoughts right now. Others will be said with abandon.

I. Started a new writing project the idea came to me in the middle of yard work, was echoed by a friend who said that would make a good story. So I started.

II. Looking back on things and forward and sideways too. All sorts of things in my life. All the pieces don’t fit, some are missing, some aren’t even mine I don’t think. It’s a puzzle and some times I think I’m standing too close to it.

III. Watched a couple of movies I know you’ll find that my movie watching habits are either so woefully behind everyone else has seen it before me or it’s not something many people have seen.

Wristcutters: A love story. So despite the personal curiosity in suicide and how can it be a love story I decided to give a watch. I liked it, is it a great movie. Eh, depends on how you define great. It’s worth a watch and don’t regret the 88 minutes spent watching.

And

The Big Empty
Jon Favreau is probably one of my favorite actors. It was an interesting movie and I really liked it, I would recommend it to anyone who is open minded enough to watch a movie without big explosions and pointless catch phrases. That said I like those movies too but both worlds can exist and have merit. Just open up a little bit and look outside your own little box.

IV. I have a new cat. Well he is a used cat but new to me. He is getting along well with Mouse the cat.

V. Trying to be more productive as in more focused and not all modern day segmented focused. I think that because we have become so used to seeing things when we want and know the can always go back to things we tend to only half focus on things and loose a lot of the details. That is worthy of a full entry and better thought so I’ll stop. In true modern fashion.
