what did it say to you

They say a picture speaks a thousand words. I agree with that statement. The trick is knowing what 1000 words a picture is speaking. We are the sum of our experiences and what means something to you is meaningless to another. Where one person sees beauty another sees something ordinary. We are the sum of what we know of millions of different little experiences and growing every second of every day. So looking at things one day we see one thing and then another there is something completely different there.

Pictures speak to us or rather our experiences speak to what we see in pictures. No matter what the photographer intends to inspire we will only see what we are prepared to see by what we know.

A tree is just a tree in a field, surrounded by a cloudless sky, barren of leaves, sticks and limbs litter the ground at its base and limbs and branches reach extended toward the heavens above …

Some will see the tree and that will be all they ever see, others will see life and the past and a future, that tree will know that the person taking the photo never will see. What great teachers trees would be if they could speak to us they see hundreds of years while most of us never see half that many.

How fragile we must seem to a tree.

Oddly I haven’t been looking trees, well at least not in the last twenty four hours but they mean something to me. They may not be anything more to another than a source of fuel or building material and largely just green blobs on the hills and parks.

Pictures speak so many things where to one they sing of joy to another they tell a tale of sorrow. Light and dark, yin and yang all there in the same frame and the takers intent is only there for them. As Nikos said through Peter it doesn’t matter what you create or what you do, it is how others see it or hear it that matters and that is where the meaning will be truly known. What 1000 words does the image speak to you?

In other news… I’m not sure if my self imposed hiatus is over from blogging but today was inspired by a photograph and insomnia. I’m not sure that the two are connected I’m also not sure that they are not.

Litter box thought…I wonder just how much poop you scoop in a cat’s life, a ton. Does a cat poop a ton in their life?

That’s all for now, other stuff tomorrow
